شن الرئيس ماو حربا كبيرا على العصافير بسبب اكلها الحبوب بحجه تدمير المحاصيل الزراعيه فشن حمله كبيره لقتل العصافير وتم قتل كميه كبيره منها ومنها من مات بسبب ارهاق المطارده وجاءت بالسلب فانتشرت الحشرات والجراد التي التهمت العصافير وادت الى الاخلال بالنظام الايكولوجى وادت لمجاعه الصين الكبري .
