يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّمَا الْخَمْرُ وَالْمَيْسِرُ وَالْأَنْصَابُ وَالْأَزْلَامُ رِجْسٌ مِنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

يقول تعالى ناهيا عباده المؤمنين عن تعاطي الخمر والميسر وهو القمار، وقد ورد عن أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبي طالب - أنه قال: الشطرنج من الميسر، ورواه ابن أبي حاتم عن أبيه، عن عبيس بن مرحوم.
