تنتمي أسماك لينكولن إلى فصيلة البلطيات، وتعيش في أنحاء متفرقة من أستراليا. تتميز معظم هذه الأسماك باللون الرمادي أو البُنِّي على أجسادها، ولكن ما يقرب من عشرين بالمئة منها يحمل صفة وراثية نادرة تجعل لونها أزرقًا ساطعًا!
يغطي هذا اللون الأزرق الفاقع جسم السمكة بالكامل، من الخارج والداخل، بما في ذلك عظامها وأحشائُها. تبدو السمكة وكأنها مضيئة من الداخل بشكل مدهش!
لا تزال أسباب هذا اللون الأزرق الفريد مجهولة تمامًا. ربما تكون آلية دفاعية أو جاذبةٌ للإناث. ولكنه بالتأكيد يعطي مظهراً خلاباً ونادراً لهذه السمكة، مما يجعلها مفضلة لدى عشاق تربية الأحياء المائية.
