أصله أنه كان للأحنف بن قيس خادم سليطة، وكانت إذا غضبت قال الأحنف: "قد هاجت زَبْرَاء"، فذهبت مثلاً في الناس، حتى يُقال لكل إنسانٍ إذا هاجَ غضبه: (قد هاجت زَبْراؤه)
والأَزْبَر الأسد الضخم الزُّبْرَة وهي ما بين كتفي الأَسد من الوَبَرِ. وزَبْرَاءُ تأْنيث الأَزْبَرِ
