يقول المثل العربي: تَرَكَ الظَّبْيُ ظِلَّه
الظلُّ ههنا، الكِناسُ وهو موضع في الشجر يَكْتَنُّ فيه الظبي ويستتر ويستظل فيه من شدة الحر، فيأتيه الصائد فيثيره فلا يعود إليه. فيُقال: "تَرَكَ الظَّبْيُ ظِلَّه". أي موضع ظله. يُضرب لمن نَفَر من شيء فتركه تركاً لا يعود إليه. ويُضرب في هجرِ الرجلِ صاحبَه
