قد يدفعك الفضول لتسأل لماذا يطعمون هذه الكائنات البحرية الثلج؟. جميعنا يعلم أن الدلافين والحيتان موطنها البحر، ولكن ما لا تعلمه ربما، أن هذه الكائنات لا تشرب المياه مباشرةً من البحر، وإنما تلبي إحتياجاتها المائية من الأسماك الحية التي تأكلها، فهي قادرة على امتصاص الماء من جسم السمكة، وعندما بدأ الإنسان بتربية الدلافين في أحواض السباحة، لاحظوا أن الأسماك الميتة، التي قدموها للدلافين لم تعطهم كمية الماء الكافية لهم، والحل كان بإعطاء الدلافين كمية مناسبة من مكعبات الثلج مع كل وجبة من الاسماك الميتة، لتعويض إحتياجاتها من الماء.
